“There is none righteous, not even one; There is none who understands, There is none who seeks for God; All have turned aside, together they have become useless; There is none who does good, There is not even one.” Romans 3:10-12

Being a Christian is more than just praying a prayer, identifying yourself as a Christian, or affirming a certain system of moral values. Being a Christian means that you have embraced what the Bible says about God, mankind, and salvation. There are six elements to understanding what it truly means to be a Christ follower. The first element is that God is the Sovereign Creator. The second element is that God is Holy. The third element is that Mankind is Sinful.

According to Word of God, everyone is guilty of sin. In 1 Kings 8:46 it says, “There is no man who does not sin.” This does not mean that we are incapable of performing acts of human kindness. But we are utterly incapable of understanding, loving, or pleasing God on our own. This is the condition that every single person who has ever been born (with the exception of Christ) finds themselves in. Our sin is so great, so tremendous in volume that there is no way we can rectify this on our own. Isaiah 64:6 says that our good deeds, our acts of kindness, our charity are “but filthy rags.”

As we continue to consider what Christ accomplished on the cross and through His resurrection during this Resurrection Week, let us meditate today on the gravity and enormity of our sin.
